no creepy guys today, but lots of questions.
Working from home today so I thought I’d take a wander over to a place where I could force myself to do some work, instead of play with the cat.
Conversations have included a point-to-point powerbook to ibook comparison, an apology for copious swearing from the guy sitting next to me, a recommendation that I never go into teaching, and an older guy quizzing me about wifi access. He wanted to know how hard it was to set up with my apple (his words). He was impressed when I told him it was faster than buying coffee.
You can’t go wrong with good coffee *and* wireless access. Except for that outbound SMTP limiting thing. My outbox is SO full!

Gee, i wish was able to work like that. Well, I do have a latpop I can connect into the network with. Oh, and FINALLY last fall they let us/gave us the ability to connect using a high speed option instead of the dial up. (nothing like taking 30 minutes to log onto the network on dial up!)
But wait! They prohibit the use of a wireless device on the laptop, due to the “security issues”.
I guess if someone wanted to sniff and read the joke emails and spam I get in my work account, or pry into the excel sheet with everyone’s vacation schedule they could……
Yeah – that’s one thing I love about my job. The flexibility to work wherever I want, go in when I feel like it instead of a rigid 9 – 5, and the lack of bureaucracy.
I’ve worked in old-style office environments, with the 9-5 daily grind, and the “must leave everything at work in the office” mentality, and while that’s good for say, not working after 5 pm, I’d take a progressive small company where I work odd (and many) hours any day.
