Finally, some downtime. Had a night to myself tonight, so I spent some time cleaning up and revamping my studio to make it a bit more comfy. Created a window seat so I can stare outside, some new shelves, and lounged. It’s amazing how much stuff I’ve accumulated up here over the past seven months….before, it was as if I had nothing. Now there’s fabric and craft supplies bursting at the seams. I think my paint has been having babies when I’ve been looking the other way.
Listening to a lot of Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald and old 12-bar blues tonight. Perfect for staring out the window at the sky.
Happy weekend!
PS – Spooks still isn’t adopted. *pout*
note to self: when swimming in the dark, watch out for turtles.
hit up meech lake last night for a swim. it’s been a while….nice to get in the water after dark and float aimlessly around. I was always a pool swimmer growing up, and swimming in lakes was something I didn’t actually do until I was in my twenties. I always found them a little horror-inducing (with all of those turtles, water snakes, rock-bottoms, lake-grass) so I avoided. that tends to be my approach to a lot of things…..avoid avoid avoid avoid then dive right in and love it.
sometimes, that approach has much better results than what you might have anticipated.
today’s album playlist rundown:
neutral milk hotel: in the aeroplane over the sea
stars: set yourself on fire
justin clayton: tragic
metric: old world underground
two things: my summer is sorely lacking in quality time spent on docks. this old photo is exactly what I *should* be doing with my summer (well….maybe minus the long-ish hair). but I’m not. FIX.
also, i don’t actually have a lot to say….but some things.
- between then and now I’ve gotten bitten by /something/ that’s left me itchy and bumpy. Annoying.
- the new bridgehead is actually kind of nice, but the layout is different. also, the soft booth at the back has HUUUUUUGE tables. Too huge and tall. I feel like a little kid sitting with the grown-ups.
- organic lemonade? Meh. Homemade lemonade? sweet.
- my foot hurts. half of you will know why. the other half won’t care. but…for the record: ouch.
- I’m starting to warm up to Madelaine Peyroux – why didn’t I like her before, you ask? I have.no.idea.
- font hunt starts in new york tomorrow. so cool.
- aisle of averages – these may be somewhat tweaked, but they’re so soothingly pretty I don’t care.
- I want more restaurant service like this
- My office chair has been broken for a week. Aeron seats? Unravel. :(
- So I stole a new seat. It’s seat part is intact, but the back? Also, unraveled. Double boo.
- I’m not yet reading the new harry potter. But soon.
- Nouvelle Vague is garnering an extraordinary amount of listening time for me these days. The girls have these amazingly smooth and clean french-accent-tinged vocals, breathy and fine.
- Seriously, whatever bit me while I was sleeping totally sucks. I am bumpy and itchy. Argh.
